When I was young, like most girls my age, I loved dolls.  I was also very frightened of my dolls .
I went out of my way to treat all of my dolls fairly, even though I might think one of them was kind of scary looking or ugly.  This egalitarian attitude came out of fear.  If I didn't treat all of the dolls fairly, I might be punished somehow, say by one of them coming alive and strangling me in my sleep.  The most frightening dolls in my childhood, were the old porcelain headed, human haired, ones my friend Martha's mom owned.  I didn't even like to touch those.  I think they bit.
